CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – A Chillicothe man is in custody following a dramatic chase on this week. The Ross County Sheriff’s Office reported that 39-year-old Chris Detty, who had active felony warrants, attempted to evade Deputy Jacob JoHansen in the area of Trego Creek and Massieville Road.
Detty was walking in the area when the deputy attempted to stop him. That is when, according to the report, he fled on foot. Detty reportedly tripped and fell while running through a yard, leading to a physical struggle with the deputy who managed to bring him to the ground.
During the altercation, a gunshot was heard, though the deputy could not identify the source of the shot. Detty was ultimately taken into custody after a prolonged struggle and was transported to the Ross County Jail, where he remains detained.
Additional deputies responded to the scene, but the origin of the gunfire remains undetermined. According to the report, the gunshot was in close proximity to the deputy who was engaged in a struggle with Detty.
