Hazard: The ranges’ front-mounted knobs can be inadvertently activated by contact with people or pets, posing a fire risk. Since 2013, Samsung has received over 300 reports of unintended activation, which have led to approximately 250 fires. These incidents have caused at least 18 instances of extensive property damage, 40 reported injuries (eight requiring medical attention), and seven fires involving pet deaths.
Remedy: Samsung is offering free knob locks or covers for the affected models. Consumers are advised to contact Samsung at 833-775-0120 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or email [email protected]. Alternatively, they can visit samsung.com/us/support/range-knob-kit to request the free safety accessories.
Safety Instructions: Until consumers receive and install the knob locks, they should ensure no objects are left on the range, keep children and pets away from the knobs, and verify that the knobs are turned off before leaving the home or going to bed. For ranges equipped with Wi-Fi, consumers can enable the “Cooktop On” notification via the Samsung SmartThings app for real-time alerts.
Important Message from CPSC: The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) urges consumers to avoid placing, leaving, or storing items on top of their ranges to prevent potential ignition if the range is accidentally activated.
