CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Ohio Highway Patrol, in collaboration with local law enforcement, will be conducting an OVI checkpoint this evening in Chillicothe.
The checkpoint is scheduled to take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on South Bridge Street, according to a statement released by the Chillicothe post of the patrol.
“The checkpoint will also be held in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols to aggressively combat impaired driver-related injury and fatal crashes,” the statement said.
Under Ohio law, OVI (Operating a Vehicle Impaired) checkpoints must be announced in advance and be visible from a distance. This requirement ensures transparency and provides drivers with the opportunity to legally avoid the checkpoint if they choose to do so.
The checkpoints are designed to minimize inconvenience and intrusion to drivers, and law enforcement officers at the scene are trained in OVI detection and Standardized Field Sobriety Tests.
