ROSS COUNTY, OHIO – Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has issued an order for flags to be lowered to half-staff across specific locations in the state to honor Andrew Lansing, a corrections officer at Ross Correctional Institution who was tragically murdered by an inmate.
The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the community, occurred Christmas morning. Officer Lansing’s dedication to public safety and service is being recognized with a state-wide display of respect. Flags of the United States and the State of Ohio will remain at half-staff at all public buildings and grounds in Ross County, as well as at the Ohio Statehouse, the Vern Riffe Center, and the Rhodes Tower in Columbus. Additionally, all Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction facilities will also follow the flag order until sunset on the day of Officer Lansing’s funeral.

Flags on other public buildings and grounds throughout Ohio may also be flown at half-staff at the discretion of local authorities for the same period.
Details about Officer Lansing’s funeral and any additional memorials are expected to be released in the coming days. Local officials and the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction are working together to support Lansing’s family and the corrections community during this difficult time.
