CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Chillicothe Police Department has confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing into a threatening letter sent to the family of Ross County Corrections Officer Andrew Lansing, who was killed by an inmate on Christmas Day.
According to police, the letter, which was mailed to the Lansing family home with no return address, was postmarked January 4, 2025, from San Jose, California. The disturbing contents of the letter included a message congratulating the death of Officer Lansing, an admission of involvement in assaults on corrections officers while incarcerated, and encouragement for further violence. The letter was signed with “P.S. Allahu Akbar of New Orleans” and included an image of the character Oogie Boogie from The Nightmare Before Christmas.
The Lansing family reported the letter to the police after expressing serious safety concerns.
Captain Tim Gay of the Chillicothe Police Department said in a statement, “There is no new information to share with you at this time. The letter will be processed in order to identify a suspect.”
As of now, authorities have not disclosed additional details about potential leads or suspects. The case remains under active investigation.
