CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – An alleged domestic disturbance turned violent last Wednesday, leading to the arrest of 41-year-old Matthew Koon on charges of strangulation and resisting arrest. According to a Chillicothe Police report, the incident occurred at 1017 Akron Street after officers responded to multiple 911 hang-ups.
Upon arrival, officers claim they found Koon attempting to leave the premises. Inside, a female victim could be heard claiming she had been choked. Police instructed Koon to stop and comply with their orders, but he allegedly ignored these commands and became increasingly confrontational.
The situation escalated when Koon allegedly resisted arrest, leading to officers physically restraining him on the ground. During the struggle, police reported they were forced to use a taser to subdue Koon after he continued to resist and disobey orders.
The victim claims Koon had grabbed her by the neck and threatened her life during an altercation. Officers observed visible redness around her neck, took photographs, and provided her with a statement form, which she agreed to submit at a later date.
Following the altercation, Koon was transported to Ross County Jail, where he was booked without any prior felony convictions of violence. He remains in custody pending a court appearance. The police report highlighted that Koon appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
This case highlights the ongoing issues of domestic violence within the community. Local authorities urge anyone experiencing or witnessing domestic violence to reach out for help and report such incidents to the police immediately.
