A school resource officer in Pike County was let go after the school learned of his admitted drug past.
Derek Barbee, 33, was assigned to the Eastern Local Schools district as their resource officer; it is a job he started last month.
On Tuesday, the Guardian ran a story about Barbee’s admitted drug past in which he states he used to sell pills and go out-of-state to deliver drugs. Barbee said he turned his life around and became a police officer.
The school district did not return messages or calls from the Guardian seeking comment, but Barbee and the district’s Superintendent’s wife posted on social media confirming the termination.
Barbee is not new to controversy. In June, his ties were severed with the Pike County Sheriff’s office after he was involved in a physical altercation at a local bar. He was re-hired last month.
