A high speed chase in Fayette County over the weekend ended with a man overdosing in a field.
It happened on Dill Road Friday evening. According to police, an officer on duty spotted a stolen vehicle at a gas station in Washington Court House. When police tried to pull it over, the car sped out of the station and led officers on a pursuit.
The vehicle went into the county off Lewis Road, before snaking to Dill Road. Once there, the car started to coast and come to a stop. When officers approached the car with their guns drawn they found a passenger, but not a driver.
Police wrote in their report that the passenger told them that when the car went around a curve a few seconds prior, the driver jumped out of the car and let it continue to roll, which led to it coasting to a stop. Officers said they did not see the driver jump because of the curve, but that did not stop them from calling in backup. Deputies and troopers assisted in setting up a permitter in the area.
After a short search, law enforcement found Corey Keeton, 27, laying in a field unresponsive. Officers said Keeton was the driver who bailed and that he was suffering an overdose while laying in the field. Medics rushed him to the hospital.
Once discharged, Keeton was taken into custody and faces a slew of charges.
