CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Adena Health Systems is feeling the strain as cases of COVID-19, RSV, and the Flu continue to spread across the area.
Recently, Adena Health Systems announced the temporary closure of their Walmart Urgent Care on River Trace Road in Chillicothe as a result of the uptick.
“We apologize for any inconvenience. Our staff is being redeployed to help in other areas of the health system,” said an Adena official.
The Guardian spoke with Adena Pediatrics this week who said “they were unable to schedule any new appointments, as they are currently booked a week out.” A triage nurse with the practice said “residents would have to go to Adena Urgent Care or Adena Greenfield to be seen.”
The urgent care facility on Centennial Boulevard in Chillicothe has also been feeling the strain as residents are left waiting hours for COVID testing.
One person told the Guardian that they had to wait “three hours” just to be tested for their employer.
Ross County Health District confirmed that COVID-19 is spreading rapidly throughout the community.
Chief Clinical Officer for Adena Health Systems Dr. Kirk Tucker said during a recent interview online, “We are seeing COVID cases rising exponentially throughout the area. Just in the last five days we have been seeing a doubling of cases.”
Tucker went on to say that all of Adena’s urgent care facilities are seeing record numbers.
“We are left rapidly trying to find extra doctors and nurse practitioner staffing to help accommodate this rise.”
On Wednesday, state officials announced over 7,000 new COVID cases within Ohio.
According to the Ohio Department of Health, “the state has not seen numbers that high since January.”
