Linda L. Mattingly, 79, went home to be with her Lord at 4:49 a.m. on November 15, 2021 in Chillicothe.
She was born April 7, 1942, in Dorton, Kentucky and was the eighth of ten children. She spent about 50 years of her life in Georgia, only recently moving in 2020 to be near her niece in Ohio, Jennifer (Raymond) Pryor and her family.
She was predeceased in death by her parents, Joseph Paul and Delphia (Osborne) Mattingly; 3 sisters, Madelyn (A.G.) Parsons, Irene (Raymond) Carlton, and Pauline (Stanley) Branham; 4 brothers, Don Mattingly, Joe Mattingly, Greg Mattingly, and Danny Rondal Mattingly; and a brother-in-law, Bill Stanley.
She is survived by a special niece with whom she lived, Jennifer (Raymond) Pryor and family, Leslie (C.J.) Burkitt, Nicholas (Kaylyn) Pryor, Gavin Smith, Braiden Smith, Madelyn Smith, Clayton Smith, Graeme Pryor, and Annika Pryor. Linda was also survived by 2 sisters, Adoree Stanley, of Chapmanville, West Virginia and Shirley (Donald Lee) Wright, of Pikeville, Kentucky. Also surviving are sisters-in-laws, Regis Mattingly, Ruth Mattingly, and Brenda Mattingly; and numerous nieces and nephews including Karen (Tim) Hall.
Linda attended Pikeville College in Kentucky studying accounting. She later moved to Atlanta, Georgia where her brother, Don, lived. Linda played on a business women’s tennis team through ALTA (Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association) for several years. She loved genealogy and researched her mother’s family back to England. She boasted about being related to Daniel Boone and Pocahontas. She created a family history book for each of her family members and looked forward to writing a book complete with reminisces of family members.
She also enjoyed working and participating in the Senior Center in Locust Grove Georgia. Linda did not mind leaving the big city for a quieter environment in Ohio where she adored her nieces and their families.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, November 19, 2021 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Steve Rinehart officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME from 12 noon until the time of the service on Friday.
