PIKE COUNTY, Ohio — Just days before some families celebrate their first holiday without a loved one, a Pike County cemetery was vandalized in a pure campaign of evil.
Omega Cemetery is the final resting place for dozens of local families. It’s located outside of Waverly along route 335.
Recently, the cemetery fell victim to vandals, with dozens of headstones being knocked over. It’s believed the damage occurred overnight Sunday.
Families were outraged by the incident and have taken to social media to vent their frustration.
“This is prison worthy! …. I hope [my loved one’s] headstone is okay. We were just out there this weekend. That’s so sad for the families of these graves,” said Tiffany Breitenbach.
Reports say, in total, approximately 55 headstones were damaged.
“They better not have messed with dad’s grave,” said an angry Marissa Anderson. “Besides that, it’s still horrible to trash a grave yard that is meant for respect for the passed. They have to be mentally messed up or high to do this damage.”
The Pike County Sheriff said he and his deputies are actively investigating the case.
Angie Lowe was upset when she learned the news.
“Has to be someone with no heart or soul to do
such a terrible thing like that. I sure pray they are
found and charged to the max.”
Members of the small community have come together and offered a $3,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible.
