CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Police in Chillicothe are investigating a reported shooting that occurred Monday afternoon.
Reports say officers responded to the area of North Bridge Street behind Chip’s Drive-Thru after a caller said people had exchanged gunfire near the business.
Witnesses at the scene told police that two individuals had pulled a gun and fired several rounds at them.
Detectives arrived on the scene and found several spent shell casings in the alleyway behind the business. According to reports, police were able to view surveillance footage that showed two suspects walking in the alley, and then one pulled a gun and opened fire on the 9-1-1 caller. There were no injuries in the shooting. Detectives say the investigation is ongoing.
The shooting on Monday came as Ohio’s new permitless carry concealed law went into effect.
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed the controversial Senate Bill 215 into law. The so-called “constitutional carry” bill removed the requirement for citizens over the age of 21 to have a permit to carry a concealed weapon. Ohio is the 23rd state in the nation to enact such a law.
Law enforcement representatives, including members of the Fraternal Order of Police union, have expressed their concerns over the law, citing safety concerns for police.
