CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Ohio University Chillicothe is hosting a community blood drive in partnership with the American Red Cross on February 7, 2022. The drive will take place at the Shoemaker Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is open to all members of the community who are interested in donating blood.
Britney Hamman, Assistant Professor of Instruction in OHIO Chillicothe’s nursing program, said, “Ohio University Chillicothe is committed to strengthening our community and helping patients in need through blood donations. This blood drive is our way of giving staff, colleagues, and neighbors an opportunity to help save lives.”
According to the American Red Cross, blood is a perishable product that can only come from volunteer blood donors. With someone in the U.S. needing blood every two seconds, blood products must be constantly replenished. The Red Cross is urging community members to consider donating blood to help ensure that patients in local hospitals have a supply of blood ready when the need arises.
“There’s no better feeling than knowing that your blood donation may give someone a second chance at life,” said Hamman. “Even if you are not able to donate, you can still make an impact in patients’ lives by promoting a blood drive or volunteering at a local drive.”
The American Red Cross is in need of all blood types, with a particular emphasis on O negative, A negative, and B negative. To make an appointment to donate or for more information, call 1-800-RED-CROSS or sign up online at redcrossblood.org with the sponsor code OUChillicothe.
