PIKE COUNTY, Ohio — Pike County Sheriff Tracy D. Evans is proud to announce the appointment of Deputy Tara Williams-Tackett as the new DARE Officer of the Pike County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Tackett has been a member of the Sheriff’s Office since 1999, serving in various positions including dispatch, jail, road and investigations, court security, and more. After a five-year break, during which she earned her certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse, Tackett has returned to the Sheriff’s Office to take over the DARE program.
DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) is a program that teaches kids to make good decisions throughout their lives. The curriculum, which Tackett teaches to all 5th-grade students in the county, covers topics such as the health effects of alcohol and tobacco, stress, communication, bullying, and being a good citizen. The program has evolved from its original “say no to drugs and violence” campaign, and now focuses very little on drug information.
Tackett and Sheriff Evans are also considering hosting a DARE Parent class on internet safety to further the learning for the community.
For anyone interested in learning more about the DARE program, Tackett is available to answer any questions and is dedicated to serving not only the 5th graders of Pike County but the entire community.
