VINTON COUNTY, Ohio — Counterfeit currency has become a growing problem in southern Ohio, with more fake money being distributed in the area. In a recent incident, a person was arrested for attempting to pass off fake bills at a local convenience store.
The fake money is easily distinguishable, as it has the words “Motion Picture Purposes of Motion Picture Only” written on it. These fake bills can be found for purchase on e-commerce websites like Amazon.
Local businesses have been warned to be cautious when accepting cash payments and to thoroughly examine any bills for signs of counterfeiting.
The Vinton County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest after receiving reports of someone trying to use the fake currency at Bud’s One Stop in McArthur. Charles Weese was taken into custody and transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.
Law enforcement officials urge the public to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity related to counterfeit money. They also advise businesses to train their employees on how to spot fake bills and to use counterfeit-detection pens or other tools to verify the authenticity of any cash transactions.
