ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio — Late in the evening of March 2, 2023, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to a complaint of a breaking and entering in progress on Spring Street in Glouster. When deputies arrived on the scene, they found two individuals inside an abandoned residence, and one of them, identified as 34-year-old Thomas Shafer of Glouster, was detained.
Shafer had an active felony warrant for Possession of Drugs and was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Another suspect fled on foot, and deputies were unable to locate them. During the investigation, deputies found a book bag in the basement containing freshly cut electrical wire and copper tubing.
Shafer has been transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail and will be charged with Breaking and Entering, Theft, and Criminal Damaging.
