Delores Jewel McGee went to be with the Lord peacefully on March 2, 2023.
Delores was born on October 26th in Fairfield, Texas, and was the daughter of the late Wilson and Ola Mae Titus. She was a graduate of Dogan High School, where she participated in many activities, including the debate team, cheerleading squad, and girls’ basketball.
Delores married Clifton McGee, Jr. in 1955 and moved to Amityville, N.Y. where they had two sons, Byron and David. Clifton was transferred to Frankfurt, Germany in 1964, where they had a baby girl, Kathy, before being transferred back to the states where they settled in Wilmington, Ohio. While in Wilmington, Clifton helped to open the local Nike Base.
Delores always had a deep love and devotion to God and the church. The family became active at Second Baptist Church, serving Pastor Larry L. Harris. She enjoyed working in the kitchen alongside her husband for several years.
Delores was passionate about community activism and was a driving force behind the construction of the shelter in Southeast Park. She was asked to speak at Wilmington College for Black History Month and was featured on the front page of the Wilmington News Journal.
For the last years of her life, Cornerstone Baptist Church became Delores’ spiritual home under the leadership of her oldest son, Pastor Byron McGee.
Delores was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years, Clifton McGee, Jr., parents Wilson and Ola Mae Titus, and siblings Patsy Proctor and Walter Green of Fairfield, TX.
She is survived by her three children, Byron (Sheila) McGee, David McGee, both of Wilmington, OH, Kathy McGee of Columbus, OH., grandchildren Tyler and Joshua (Ciara) McGee of Wilmington, OH, Sydni (Daniel) Cobb of Hillsboro, OH, great-granddaughter Keaton Olivia, and sister Evelyn Neal of Houston, TX. Delores had many cherished nieces, nephews, close friends, and extended family.
The family would like to thank the medical team at Wright Patterson Medical Center and Hospice of Dayton for their dedicated and loving care.
The homegoing will be held Monday, March 6th, with a viewing at 9 AM with a service to follow at 11 AM at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 225 Randolph St, Wilmington, OH 45177. Delores will be interred at Sugar Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Dayton and Cornerstone Baptist Church.
