ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A high-speed chase that began with a traffic stop on Vigo Road ended with an arrest and a car on fire.
According to reports, deputies attempted to pull over Keith Doles for a marked lanes violation but discovered that he had several active arrest warrants, including one from Vinton County.
As deputies were checking the warrants, reports say, they noticed Doles opening and closing his car door several times, leading him to believe that he was going to run. When the deputy returned to his patrol car, he saw Doles take off in his vehicle and immediately pursued him.
The chase, authorities said, reached speeds of around 60 mph, with Doles driving through several roads before finally reaching Carpenter Road, where three of the vehicle’s tires were disabled by spike strips placed by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The car then caught fire on the undercarriage, causing Doles to bail out and run on foot.
Deputies pursued Doles on foot and were able to apprehend him with the help of a trooper from the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Doles reportedly told deputies that he had ingested narcotics.
During an inventory of the vehicle, authorities discovered suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia. Doles was transported to Ross County Jail and is facing charges of failure to comply, possession of drugs (pending lab results), marked lanes violation, and driving under suspension.
