PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio — A serious motorcycle crash on Thursday afternoon has left one person injured, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol. The crash occurred when a 2016 Toyota Tacoma driven by 77-year-old Scott Hodges of Circleville was attempting to turn left onto Route 23 southbound from the westbound lane. Unfortunately, Hodges failed to yield to oncoming traffic, including a 2012 Honda motorcycle driven by 24-year-old McKayla Swackhammer of Ashville. The highway patrol reports that Swackhammer was traveling northbound on Route 23 when she collided with Hodges’ vehicle in the rear driver’s side.

The situation was made more complicated by the presence of a semi-trailer truck traveling northbound, which obscured the view of the roadway and prevented Swackhammer from seeing Hodges’ vehicle in time to avoid a collision. The impact of the crash left Swackhammer seriously injured and she was transported by MedFlight to OSU Medical Center in Columbus for treatment.
As a result of the crash, the highway was closed for an extended period of time while crews worked to clear the scene. The Ohio Highway Patrol is investigating the incident and has not yet released further details on the cause of the crash.
