ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — The Ross County Coroner’s Office has confirmed to the Guardian that no human remains were found behind Unioto.
The Guardian reported earlier on the discovery of what the sheriff’s office said was a possibly freshly dug grave. Over the weekend, deputies with the Ross County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the Union-Scioto District Office on Eygpt Pike after mushroom hunters said they located a grave.
Deputies, along with a canine unit, responded to the location. The suspected grave was in a secluded area behind the district office, near a neighboring property. The dog did alert its handlers to the presence of possible human remains.
We spoke with Chief Investigator Mike Ratliff of the Ross County Coroner’s Office, who said the incident was a “false alarm”, and that “nothing was found.” The sheriff’s office has not released any additional information regarding the canine detecting possible human remains or why what appeared to be a grave was dug in a secluded area.
