JACKSON COUNTY, Ohio — A series of accidents occurred on State Route 93 in Milton Township, Jackson County, which are currently under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Jackson Post. The driver responsible for both accidents was identified as Carter Leach, a 16-year-old from Jackson.
On Monday, around 3:30 PM, Leach was driving a pick-up eastbound on State Route 93 near milepost 24 when he veered off the right side of the road, hitting a cable box and a utility pole. Rather than stopping, Leach continued driving eastbound, re-entering State Route 93.
In a second incident near milepost 25, Leach crossed the center line, sideswiping a westbound Ford F-350 pick-up driven by Jack Stewart, a 61-year-old Wellston resident. Fortunately, Stewart was not injured in the accident. After sideswiping Stewart’s vehicle, Leach careened off the left side of the road, hitting a mailbox and a traffic sign.
Leach sustained minor injuries from the second crash and was cited for driving left of center and operating a motor vehicle without a valid license.
The Jackson Post received assistance at the scene from the Wellston Police Department, Jackson County EMS, and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
In light of this incident, the Ohio State Highway Patrol is reminding motorists of the dangers of driving distracted, emphasizing the importance of safety and attentiveness on the road.
