SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio — A Portsmouth woman is facing felony charges after she was accused of abusing a nonverbal patient in her care.
According to the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a 911 call on July 18 from a Wheelersburg residence requesting an ambulance for a patient who had been injured. The caller said the patient was nonverbal and had “additional handicaps.”
Deputies arrived at the hospital and spoke with the patient’s family. The investigation was then transferred to the Scioto County Special Victim’s Unit.
Detectives reviewed footage from a camera system inside the residence that allegedly showed the caregiver, Jamey Addington, 35, of Portsmouth, abusing the patient. Detectives also obtained statements from several witnesses and collected additional evidence.
Addington was arrested and charged with felonious assault, a felony of the 2nd degree, 5 counts of patient abuse or neglect, a felony of the 4th degree, and failing to provide for a functionally impaired person, a felony of the 4th degree. She is currently being held in the Scioto County Jail on a $60,000 bond.
Sheriff David Thoroughman said the investigation is ongoing and that more charges could be filed. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Jodi Conkel at 740-351-1091.
Addington is scheduled to appear in Portsmouth Municipal Court today.
