CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A man has been rushed to the hospital after a deputy-involved shooting.
It happened in Ross County on Atlantis Road just after 1 p.m. on Thursday.
Initially, a 9-1-1 call was placed to dispatch claiming a man had a gunshot wound. When responding deputies arrived, they weren’t sure what they had. However, two deputies confronted a man inside the house as he had a weapon. They deployed a taser on the man, who fired off a round. The deputies were forced to open fire, according to Chief T.J. Hollis of the Sheriff’s Office.
The man was shot, and the two deputies were not physically hurt. The Chief was unable to say why the initial call claimed someone was shot, or if the incident was an attempt to involve or harm law enforcement.
Multiple deputies, including members from the Chillicothe Police Department responded to assist.
The man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and flown to Grant Medical Center.
The Ohio Attorney General has been called in to assist in the investigation.
Union-Scioto School District announced that students riding bus #2 will be dropped off at the intersections of Challenger and Atlantis due to the law enforcement presence.
