ATHENS, Ohio — Deputies from the Athens County Sheriff’s Office were busy responding to various calls for service on Tuesday, February 20th, across different locations within the county.
The day started with a dispatch to a 911 hang-up on Steinmeyer Road, New Marshfield. Upon arrival, deputies found no apparent issues and were unable to make contact with anyone at the location before returning to regular patrol duties.
While on patrol, deputies encountered an accident on State Route 33, Nelsonville, where the Ohio State Highway Patrol and local fire departments were already present, handling the situation. Deputies assisted briefly before resuming their patrol.
A report of a protection order violation led deputies to speak with a female, but after an investigation, it was determined that no crime had occurred.
Another call took deputies to Vore Ridge Road, Athens, for a well-being check, where they found everything to be in order after speaking with the homeowner.
The Plains saw its share of activity, with deputies responding to reports of threats/harassment, a case report under investigation, and a trespass complaint. Despite thorough patrols, no trespassers were located.
A business on North Plains Road reported a bad check complaint, prompting deputies to take a report with an ongoing investigation.
Emergency notification on East Fourth Street in The Plains required deputies’ attention briefly before they resumed regular patrol duties.
Harassment complaints from East First Street in The Plains and an alleged assault report on Grant Street were investigated, with deputies finding no evidence of the reported incidents.
A report of an unruly juvenile on Bethany Ridge Road in Guysville resulted in deputies transporting the juvenile to the hospital for a mental health evaluation due to self-harm threats.
Lastly, deputies responded to Third Street, The Plains, for a report of a suspicious person. Despite thorough patrols and searches, no individuals were found, and no criminal activity was observed.
