COLUMBUS, Ohio — A former school resource officer in Preble County has been indicted on charges of sexual battery and tampering with evidence, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced today.
Mason Williams, 26, of Eaton, is accused of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student at National Trail High School, where he was previously assigned. Williams was placed on administrative leave upon the allegations and has now been indicted by a Preble County grand jury.
The indictment includes two counts of sexual battery, a third-degree felony, and one count of tampering with evidence, also a third-degree felony.
“These are serious charges against a person entrusted with the safety of students,” Yost said in a statement. “We appreciate the work of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office in investigating this case and will ensure a thorough prosecution.”
The investigation was conducted by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. Yost’s Special Prosecutions Section will handle the case moving forward.
An indictment is a formal accusation and does not signify guilt. Williams is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
