CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — Sheriff Matthew O. Hafey announced today that on April 19, 2024, at approximately 3:18 P.M., the Pickaway County Communications Center received a 911 call from an Amazon delivery driver who reported discovering a human body floating in a pond at 23561 Smith-Hulse Road in Circleville, Ohio.
Deputies, detectives, and medics responded to the scene and located the body of a male identified as 73-year-old Louis M. Menduni Jr. in the pond. Mr. Menduni was pronounced dead at the scene by Williamsport EMS.
Initial investigations, authorities said, suggest that Mr. Menduni was mowing grass around the pond when he accidentally slid backward into the water. The lawn mower he was using was later recovered from the pond by Scioto Valley Wrecker Service, the sheriff’s office said.
Dr. John Ellis, the Pickaway County Coroner, also arrived at the scene. The body of Louis Menduni Jr. has been transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
The case remains under investigation by the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office. Further details will be released as they become available.
