CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Ross County Historical Society’s Scholarship and Education Committee has announced the recipients of the 2024 Nolan Scholarship. Each of the two recipients will receive $2,500, which will be paid directly to their chosen college or university.
Sarah Lute, a resident of Chillicothe and daughter of James and Kimberly Lute, is one of the recipients. A student at Huntington High School, Lute holds the position of President in both the National Honor Society and Spanish Club. She has been a member of the drama club for four years and has participated in the concert, marching, and pep bands for seven years. Lute has also been involved in cross country and track for six years. Outside of school, she is an active member of her youth group at First Wesleyan Church and the Pursuit Student Ministries leadership team. She is one of the two remaining members of her Girl Scout troop, which she has been a part of since its inception 13 years ago, and has been the president of her 4-H club for ten years. Lute plans to attend Heidelberg University in Tiffin in the fall, where she will pursue a degree in Environmental Science with the goal of becoming an environmental attorney.
The second recipient, Nora Beery, is the daughter of Brian and Sadie Beery of Frankfort. Beery has excelled in her academic work at Adena High School, where she is a member of the National Honor Society. She served as the field commander of the marching band, participated in track and powerlifting, was a MADE Ambassador, a theater club member, a pep and concert band member, a Business Professionals of America member, and the captain of the Quiz Team. Outside of school, she is a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church bell choir, the president of her 4-H Club, the President of the Junior Fair Board, the Secretary of 4-H Junior Leaders, and a member of the Food and Fashion Board. Beery plans to attend The Ohio State University, where she will pursue a degree in Education with the aim of becoming a teacher.
