ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — The Ross County Health District’s Environmental Division has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency for mosquito control.
The funding, which will be available from May 2024 through April 2025, is part of a larger initiative that has so far awarded over $1 million to 58 separate health departments across 47 Ohio counties.
Kelly Spindler, the Environmental Health Director for the Ross County Health District, emphasized the role of community involvement in mosquito control. “You can help prevent mosquito bites by being diligent to rid your yard of mosquito breeding sites,” said Spindler.
Experts echo this advice, stating that removing any standing water from properties can help prevent mosquitoes from laying eggs, thereby reducing the mosquito population and the associated health risks.
The grant will support the e Ross County Health District’s efforts to control the mosquito population and reduce the risk of mosquito-borne diseases in the community.
