ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A teacher at Adena Middle School is under investigation following allegations of inappropriate and unwanted advances toward a student.
According to the Ross County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy responded to a call from a concerned grandparent who reported that their granddaughter believed a teacher was stalking her. The incident report details the allegations, which include the teacher allegedly making several comments about the student’s appearance.
The student reportedly told investigators that the teacher often remarked that she was “pretty” several times a day and would get uncomfortably close to her, allowing her to “feel him breathing.” The grandparent also stated that the teacher had touched the student, though the report does not include specifics on that encounter.
In addition to the comments, the student informed deputies that the teacher followed her to a recent Unioto volleyball game, where his presence made her so uncomfortable that she was unable to participate. The family also alleged that the teacher made inappropriate remarks about enjoying teaching middle school because “all the girls are so pretty.”
The grandparent indicated that other students had filed similar complaints about the teacher’s comments toward female students. The family had reportedly raised concerns with the school before contacting law enforcement.
The case has been forwarded to detectives for further investigation. The Guardian reached out to Dr. Matthew Unger, Superintendent of Adena Local Schools, for comment. As of this report, the district has yet to issue a statement.
The investigation remains ongoing. The sheriff’s office redacted the teacher’s name because no criminal charges have been filed at this time.
