ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — Authorities are investigating a deputy involved shooting late Monday afternoon in Ross County.

Just before 5 p.m., emergency crews were dispatched to the 15000 block of Pleasant Valley Road for a male suffering from a gunshot wound.

According to sources, deputies stopped a male subject who was suspected in a reported home invasion. That is when gunfire erupted. Early reports indicate the individual was shot by law enforcement.

Multiple law enforcement agencies have responded to the scene, though details remain limited. Medics and law enforcement have established a staging area near a local church on Route 104 as the situation unfolds.

“The caller reported that the suspect had a firearm and gave a description of the suspect,” said the county Sheriff. “While responding to the call one of my deputies saw a subject matching the description of the suspect in the area of State Route 104 near the Chillicothe Baptist Church. When my deputy confronted the suspect it is believed that he brandished a firearm to my deputy. My deputy discharged his firearm striking the suspect.”

The suspect was transported to Adena Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased. His name has not been released.

There were no physical injuries to law enforcement.
