ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A man lost part of his finger in a dog bite incident in Ross County.
Deputies were dispatched to the scene where emergency medical services were already treating a victim, whose right index finger was missing at the tip.
The victim, whose identity was not released, described he had been bitten by a dog. He described the dog as a white and black Great Pyrenees but claimed not to know its owner. A female neighbor reported the dog as a white and black mixed Lab/Pit breed and noted it was not the victim’s. She further described a blue “pace car” with white checkers, often seen around town, in which the dog was placed after the incident.
Conflicting accounts emerged during the investigation. A fire department member reported that the victim initially told them the dog belonged to a friend, later identified as the girlfriend of an individual known only by a first name. The victim, who had an odor of alcohol and admitted to drinking a beer while awaiting EMS, initially refused treatment but later consented and was transported to Adena Regional Medical Center.
Deputies noted the victim’s inconsistent statements regarding the dog’s owner. The Ross County Dog Warden was notified, and the investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek to identify the dog’s owner and determine the circumstances of the incident.
No further details were available at the time of the report.
