COLUMBUS, Ohio — Wendy’s is now selling its signature square hamburger patties in select Kroger supermarkets in central Ohio and King Soopers stores in Denver, marking a test run for potential nationwide expansion, the company announced.
The Dublin-based fast-food chain’s patties, promoted as “fresh, never frozen,” are available in packs of four, each weighing 4 ounces, equivalent to a Wendy’s single burger. Priced at $8.99 regularly, the patties are currently on sale for $7.99, according to the Kroger app. The regular price matches Kroger’s Private Selection Angus ground-beef patties but is more than double the cost of Kroger’s basic ground beef.
“We’re exploring new ways to bring Wendy’s fresh, famous food to customers,” said Heidi Schauer, a Wendy’s spokeswoman, in an email. She described the initiative as a pilot for possible future growth.
The patties, featuring the Wendy’s logo, are now available in the meat sections of participating stores. This move follows Wendy’s earlier venture into grocery stores with its canned chili, sold nationwide at retailers including Kroger, Giant Eagle, Meijer, Target, Walmart, and Sam’s Club.
Wendy’s, with approximately 7,000 restaurants worldwide, aims to gauge consumer interest in its patties for home cooking, particularly for backyard grilling.
