CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — Several Circleville food establishments were cited for critical and non‑critical violations during routine health inspections conducted this month by Pickaway County Public Health, according to newly released reports.
Inspectors issued violations at Altheeb Market Inc., Megadeal Pizza, Watt Street Tavern, Grand Buffett, and The Goody Nook, with issues ranging from improper handwashing practices to food‑contact contamination and equipment sanitation problems.
At Altheeb Market Inc., 357 E. Ohio St., inspectors documented two critical violations, including improper use of a handwashing sink and raw bacon stored in contact with bologna. Staff also reported using a utility sink for multiple purposes, including warewashing. Inspectors noted a mattress in an upstairs room and scheduled a follow‑up inspection by Dec. 29.
Megadeal Pizza, 509 E. Main St., received a critical violation for a quaternary ammonium sanitizer reading above 400 ppm, exceeding the range measurable by test strips. Non‑critical violations included utensils stored with handles touching food, sinks not sealed to the wall, grime on walk‑in cooler floors, a mop left in a mop sink, and failure to display the original food‑service license.
At Watt Street Tavern, 115 Watt St., inspectors cited two critical violations: an employee turning off a faucet with bare hands after washing and improper date‑marking of ready‑to‑eat foods. Additional non‑critical issues included missing handwashing signage, food prep occurring across a three‑compartment sink, a broken hot‑water knob on a hand sink, unsealed sinks, grime on equipment legs, debris on walls near the dish machine, and a mop stored in a bucket.
Grand Buffett, 1450 Circleville Plaza Dr., was cited for three critical violations, including food debris in a handwashing sink, a soiled can opener, and a dish‑machine pipe lacking an adequate air gap. Non‑critical violations included peeling tape on a table, grime on knife‑storage racks, and a mop stored in a bucket. Inspectors also observed frozen meat thawing on a counter.
At The Goody Nook, 2512 W. U.S. Route 22, inspectors cited two critical violations: home‑produced potentially hazardous foods offered for sale without proof of registration and dried food debris on a deli slicer and can opener. Non‑critical issues included a gap between a hand sink and wall, a heavily scored cutting board, and expired sanitizer test strips.
All inspections were conducted in December, and facilities were advised to correct violations and maintain compliance with Ohio food‑safety regulations. This information is public record and can be obtained from the Pickaway County Health District
