CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A firearm stolen from a vehicle in Baltimore, Maryland, ended up in a Chillicothe pawn shop — and a tip from out-of-state detectives helped local officers track it down and pull it off the shelf.

According to a Chillicothe Police Department report, Baltimore investigators contacted Chillicothe officers on April 14 after a firearm reported stolen from a motor vehicle was entered into the LEADS national database. Investigators traced the weapon to First Cash Pawn Shop at 25 N. Bridge Street in Chillicothe, where records showed it had been pawned on April 4, 2026, for $280.

Officers responded to the pawn shop, confirmed the firearm’s serial number, make, model, and caliber matched the stolen weapon on record, and seized it as evidence.

The firearm was subsequently turned over for ballistic testing and submitted to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s NIBIN database — a national system used to link firearms to crimes through ballistic comparison.

The individual who pawned the weapon has been identified, but the Chillicothe Police Department redacted the person of interest’s name. A criminal history check returned no prior convictions. Investigators say they are continuing to follow up to determine how the person came into possession of the stolen firearm.

The case remains open and under investigation.
