PIKETON, Ohio — Centrus Energy Corp. has selected Geiger Brothers, Inc. of Jackson, Ohio, as the construction contractor for its planned expansion of uranium enrichment capacity at its Piketon facility in Pike County.

Centrus previously announced a multi-billion dollar expansion of its American Centrifuge Plant in Piketon to increase production of Low-Enriched Uranium and High-Assay Low-Enriched Uranium, known as HALEU. The Piketon facility is the only domestic site currently licensed to produce HALEU, which is used in advanced nuclear reactors.

Fluor Corporation is serving as the project’s engineering, procurement, and construction management contractor. Geiger Brothers will conduct on-site construction work. Centrus said the split structure is intended to generate cost efficiencies.

Geiger Brothers, founded in 1909 and employee-owned, provides industrial construction services across Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Tennessee. The company previously worked on Centrus’ existing HALEU cascade at the Piketon site and an earlier uranium demonstration project completed in 2013.

The timeline, total projected cost, and the actual number of jobs expected to be created have not been disclosed in detail by the company.
