CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Police used the city’s Flock license plate reader system Tuesday to track a reported stolen vehicle from a North Bridge Street gas station, leading to a pursuit and the arrest of a woman wanted on multiple felony warrants, according to a police report.
Officers were called around 6:50 p.m. to the AMACO station at 61 N. Bridge St. for a report of a possible stolen vehicle. The caller told police he had been staying at America’s Best Value Inn on E. Main St. and had loaned his maroon Chevrolet Impala to a woman he had known the previous afternoon. He said she was supposed to return it within a couple of hours, but never did, and he had been unable to reach her since. He requested charges and said she may be staying in the Anderson Station Road area.
Police entered the vehicle into the Flock Safety camera system, which later detected it in several locations, including the State Route 104/High Street area and Western Avenue. At about 6:22 p.m., a camera recorded the vehicle traveling south on SR 104 past the Ross Correctional Institution. Based on the direction of travel, police believed it may have exited onto U.S. 35 westbound toward Pleasant Valley Road, then onto Veterans Parkway, which leads to the Anderson Station Road apartment complexes.
After checking the area, an officer waited along Anderson Station Road. Around 7:14 p.m., the vehicle passed the cruiser, driven by 37-year-old Ashton Bowlings, who was the subject of multiple felony warrants through the Ross County Sheriff’s Office.
When the officer attempted a traffic stop, the driver fled at high speed into the Westland Estates neighborhood. The pursuit ended when the vehicle struck a curb and came to a stop. The woman ran from the car but was caught after a brief foot chase.
She was arrested on her outstanding warrants and additionally charged with obstructing official business. She was taken to the Ross County Jail without incident. Police did not pursue an unauthorized‑use charge due to conflicting statements.
The investigation into the vehicle’s status remains ongoing.
