CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A Chillicothe man with an active arrest warrant led officers on a foot chase through a Washington Avenue neighborhood early Thursday morning before being taken into custody and found in possession of suspected methamphetamine.

Raymond Parker was spotted by a patrolling officer on Douglas Avenue around 1 a.m. April 24. The officer, who recognized Parker from prior interactions and knew he had an active warrant, watched Parker drop his bike and run behind a residence on Washington Avenue.

Officers pursued Parker on foot through the property, where he was found hiding beside a parked car before jumping a fence into a backyard. An officer caught up with Parker as he attempted to scale another fence and took him to the ground. He was placed under arrest with the assistance of a second officer.

A search of Parker’s person revealed a plastic straw with residue, tin foil with burnt residue, and a knotted plastic bag containing a substance. When asked what was in the bag, Parker said “ice” — a street term for methamphetamine.

Parker was transported to the Ross County Jail and booked on his active warrant, a charge of drug paraphernalia, and obstructing official business. He appeared in Chillicothe Municipal Court at 9 a.m. Thursday.

The suspected methamphetamine has been sent to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation for testing. Additional charges may follow depending on the results.
