PIKETON, Ohio — A new career center opened Wednesday in Piketon aimed at steering local job seekers toward positions connected to the PORTS Technology Campus, the former uranium enrichment site has been the subject of years of cleanup, redevelopment planning, and controversy over its nuclear future.
The PORTS Recruitment and Career Center opened at the Ohio State University Endeavor Center on Shyville Road. It is operated by Workforce Board Area I and is backed by a coalition of trade unions, employers, and economic development organizations with financial and other interests in the PORTS campus buildout.
Among the partners listed are Centrus Energy and Oklo — two companies with active commercial interests at the PORTS site. Centrus operates a uranium enrichment demonstration facility on the campus. Oklo, the advanced nuclear startup, has announced plans to develop reactor capacity there.
The center’s stated mission is to connect Pike County residents with jobs tied to PORTS and related developments in the region.
