LUCASVILLE, Ohio — A 30-year-old Beaver woman and two of her young children were killed Monday afternoon when the SUV she was driving failed to yield at an intersection and was struck by a tractor-trailer in Union Township, authorities said.
Hannah N. Howard, 30, of Beaver, and her sons Gunner Howard, 9, and Peyton Howard, 5, both of Beaver, died at the scene of the two-vehicle crash at the intersection of state Route 32 and Coal Dock Road, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
Howard was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse northbound on Coal Dock Road around 1:56 p.m. when it pulled into the path of a westbound 2009 Kenworth T800 tractor-trailer pulling an empty logging trailer, troopers said. The Kenworth, driven by Chance E. Rodgers, 27, of Bainbridge, struck the Traverse.
Howard’s third passenger, a 4-year-old child, was seriously injured and flown by air ambulance to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus. Rodgers was not injured.
The Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The Pike County Sheriff’s Office, multiple fire departments, emergency services and the Pike County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.
No further details on the cause or whether charges are pending were immediately released. The investigation continues.
