BEAVER, Ohio — Beaver Volunteer Fire Department crews responded Saturday afternoon to assist Jackson Township Fire Department after an ATV rolled over in the area of Wickline Road, according to a post from Beaver FD.

The call came in around 3:59 p.m., the department said. The stretch of Wickline Road runs through rural southeastern Beaver Township, near the Pike County boundary with Jackson Township, a roughly 1,170-resident township in the county’s northeastern corner.

Beaver FD did not release further details about the crash, including whether anyone was injured or transported for treatment.

In the same post, the department reminded all drivers and riders of ATVs and UTVs to wear protective head gear. Rollovers are among the leading causes of fatal all-terrain vehicle crashes nationally, with the vehicle overturning in a majority of deadly incidents, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The agency has found that helmets cut the risk of a fatal head injury in an ATV crash by about 40% and reduce the risk of a nonfatal brain injury by 60% or more.

Beaver VFD operates out of a single station on state Route 335 and is staffed by volunteer firefighters who respond to fire, rescue and mutual-aid calls throughout Beaver Township and neighboring communities, including Jackson Township.
