HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A 62-year-old Grove City man died Monday morning after the dump truck he was driving overturned and threw him from the cab on U.S. Route 23 in Pickaway County, the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office said.
Michael E. Moyer was pronounced dead at 7:39 a.m., about 13 minutes after the crash was reported, Sheriff Matthew O. Hafey said in a statement.
The sheriff’s office Communications Center received a 911 call at 7:26 a.m. Monday reporting a dump truck overturned and blocking both lanes of southbound U.S. 23 just south of Weigand Road in Harrison Township, according to the sheriff’s office.
South Bloomfield police officers were first to arrive, followed shortly by Pickaway County deputies and the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the sheriff’s office said.
Responding officers found a 2015 Kenworth dump truck owned by Decker Construction on its side, blocking both southbound lanes, according to the sheriff’s office.
An investigation determined the truck was traveling south on U.S. 23 when it veered off the left side of the roadway. The driver overcorrected twice, throwing the truck back toward the east side of the road, where the rear end fishtailed and the vehicle rolled onto its right side, the sheriff’s office said.
Moyer was ejected from the truck and partially pinned underneath it, according to the sheriff’s office. Harrison Township Fire and EMS crews responded and pronounced him dead at the scene.
The sheriff’s office thanked Harrison Township Fire and EMS, South Bloomfield police, Commercial Point police, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Pickaway County Coroner Dr. Seth Yates, Scioto Township Fire and EMS, and the Ohio Department of Transportation for their assistance at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office.
