WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — Fayette County commissioners voted June 8 to annex nearly 491 acres from Jefferson Township into the Village of Jeffersonville, clearing the way for the village to extend municipal services into the area.
Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution granting the annexation of 490.86 acres, formalizing a petition filed in March by property owners Martin Land Co., August Knecht and Gretchen Krieger, according to meeting minutes. The resolution was introduced by Commissioner Tony Anderson and seconded by Commissioner Donald Fleak.
The annexed territory shares about 8,634 feet of boundary with the village, representing roughly 30% contiguity, the minutes said. Commissioners held a public hearing on the petition June 1 and heard questions from residents before tabling a vote for further consideration, then granted the annexation at their following meeting.
Once removed from Jefferson Township, the property will no longer be subject to township taxation and will fall under the services the village has agreed to provide, according to the resolution.
Commissioners also advanced road work in the same corridor at the June 8 meeting, agreeing to pay up to $250,000 for a professional services agreement with American Structurepoint Inc. to design construction plans extending Bluegrass Roadway from State Route 729 to State Route 41, including a new roundabout at the SR-41 intersection, the minutes said.
Separately, commissioners approved an amendment to the county’s loan agreement with the Ohio Department of Transportation covering construction of a Bluegrass Boulevard extension from an existing roundabout at Innovation Way to SR 729 within Jefferson Township, according to the minutes.
Jefferson Township is home to the Honda and LG Energy Solutions battery plant that broke ground near I-71 in Fayette County.
