WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — Fayette County Public Health’s birth and death records office will be unavailable for two hours Friday morning while staff travel offsite to provide services elsewhere in the county.
The vital records office at 317 S. Fayette St. will be closed from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7, the health department said in a Facebook post. The agency did not specify what offsite services staff would be providing, and regular records service is expected to resume once employees return to the office.
The office issues certified copies of birth and death certificates for $25 each, according to the health department’s website. The vital statistics division maintains records dating back to 1908. Birth certificates can be requested by anyone statewide in Ohio, while death certificates are only available through the county where the death occurred.
Certificates can be obtained in person, by phone with a credit card, or by mail with a money order, the health department said. The office’s standard line is 740-335-5910, and it also operates a 24-hour line for reportable conditions at 740-505-1936.
Beyond vital records, Fayette County Public Health provides reproductive health, immunization and communicable disease services, school nursing, environmental health inspections, emergency preparedness planning, and programs including Help Me Grow home visiting and the Women, Infants and Children nutrition program, according to the agency’s website. The department describes its mission as protecting the community “placing emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention.”
