HIGHLAND COUNTY, Ohio — Two locals were killed Thursday in a crash near Hillsboro.

Troopers said that the single-vehicle crash happened at around 5:30 p.m. on route 50 in Paint Township.

Preliminary investigation revealed an SUV drove off the right side of the roadway, struck a tree and caused the vehicle to overturn and become engulfed in flames. The Yukon was being operated by Elmer Everhart, 78, Chillicothe.

Everhart and a passenger, Barbara Everhart, 73, also of Chillicothe, both died at the scene.

There were two children in the backseat, troopers said, that were taken to the hospital.

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be a factor in this crash, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation.
