ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — An altercation between two women led to the arrest of one, and the discovery of possible child abuse.
It all happened late Wednesday evening in Bainbridge.
According to the Ross County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were originally dispatched to the Sunoco gas station on North Quarry Street in the village.
Deputies, reports say, were alerted that the two women were at a residence in the 400 block of Tong Hollow Road. Upon arrival, deputies said, one of the individuals appeared to be highly intoxicated.
It was also discovered the woman, later identified as Ashley Bainter, had an active warrant for her arrest.
Bainter was placed under arrest for an outstanding warrant, but deputies discovered, inside the residence, a 6-month-old child. Authorities say deputies radioed dispatchers and requested an ambulance to the home. The child, the deputy told dispatchers, had bruising to the head.
It is unclear how the child was injured or by whom. The infant was transported to Adena Greenfield. Child Protective Services were also notified of the case and an investigation was started into possible child abuse.
Bainter was transported to the Ross County Jail where she remains in custody.
