CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — On Monday, officers with the Chillicothe Police Department responded to a stolen vehicle complaint and a separate disorderly conduct incident involving the same suspect. The events led to a dramatic confrontation outside a local Panera Bread.
Stolen Conn’s Potato Chips Truck
The day began with a report at BP, located at 760 N Bridge St, where the Conn’s Potato Chips’ delivery driver reported his truck stolen while he was inside making a delivery. The unknown suspect fled the scene in the stolen grey 2020 Chevrolet delivery/box style truck with an Ohio registration plate of PMJ2207. Video evidence from BP was collected, showing the alleged suspect, later identified as Troy Jones, driving off with the Conn’s truck.
Disorderly Conduct and Attempted Car Theft
Simultaneously, other officers responded to a disorderly conduct incident at 1391 N Bridge St, where they found the stolen Conn’s truck parked in the lot.
Altercation with Police
The situation escalated when officers arrived at Panera Bread, located nearby. A witness reportedly pointed out Troy Jones as the person who arrived driving the stolen Conn’s truck and attempted to steal another vehicle, a black Honda Pilot.
Upon contact with Mr. Jones, he claimed he was following orders and implied he worked for the other driver. The officer in their report noted that Mr. Jones had dilated pupils, suggesting possible narcotics use, and requested identification, but Mr. Jones refused to comply.
Mr. Jones resisted arrest, officials said, leading officers to take him to the ground. During the struggle, officers discovered a handgun in Mr. Jones’ front waistband and secured it. Further search of Mr. Jones revealed ammunition and a bag containing a crystalline substance.
Criminal History and Charges
Background checks, per the report, revealed that Mr. Jones had prior convictions of Aggravated Burglary and Weapons Under Disability, making him ineligible to possess firearms. Due to his criminal history, Mr. Jones was arrested on multiple charges, including Having Weapons While Under Disability, Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Obstructing Official Business, and Resisting Arrest.
Court Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation
Mr. Jones was transported to the Ross County Jail. Suspected narcotics found on Mr. Jones were sent by authorities to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation for chemical analysis.
The case remains open as law enforcement continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the stolen Conn’s truck and the attempted theft of the black Honda Pilot.
