CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Motorists traveling through Chillicothe’s Paint Street should brace themselves for closures and lane reductions over the next ten days due to a resurfacing project that has just commenced.
Matt McGuire, the Public Information Officer for ODOT District 9, which serves Ross County, provided details about the ongoing project. “The project will resurface SR 772, including South Paint Street, between Main Street and Bishop Hill Road,” McGuire explained. He further added that the work on this project started last week, with milling taking place on the Paint Creek bridge.
“Though milling will continue outside the city limits [Tuesday], we’ll start the process within city limits starting Wednesday,” McGuire shared. After the milling, the following steps will include pavement repairs and a replacement of the brick sidewalks. “If everything goes as planned and the weather remains favorable, we expect the resurfacing phase to kick off next week,” McGuire commented.
For those who use this route for their daily commutes or errands, McGuire noted that the working hours are from 7 AM to 5 PM. “We are committed to ensuring minimal disruptions. One lane of two-way traffic will be maintained throughout the working hours, and we’ll have flaggers on-site to direct the traffic,” he assured.
There is also no parking on parts of the street between now and completion of the project.
The undertaking is not a small one. Shelly and Sands, the contractor overseeing the operations, is handling a project budgeted at $1.5 million. According to McGuire, the entire process will be wrapped up this fall, giving the residents and travelers of Chillicothe a smoother and safer travel experience.
Residents are encouraged to exercise patience during this time and plan their routes accordingly to avoid potential delays.
