CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Police in Chillicothe are investigating an incident where a man was allegedly brandishing a firearm and knocking on doors.
According to the department, the incident happened in the 1000 block of Dayton Street on the city’s east side. Witnesses said a man wearing a black hoodie and jeans with a facial tattoo, knocked on their doors and behaved as if he was trying to enter their residences. The resident provided officers with a short video from their Ring doorbell camera showing the individual approaching the residence and knocking on the door.
The man, police said was later located and questioned about his actions. He admitted to being the individual in question and claimed that a vehicle was following him, and a man was trying to assault him, leading him to knock on doors. The man was searched at the scene, but no firearms were found on his person, officers said. He was warned for disorderly conduct and released.
However, additional video evidence obtained later showed the man approaching another house with what appeared to be a handgun. Based on this video and the statements of the other witnesses, who expressed fear for their lives and the lives of their families, an investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
The suspect’s name has been withheld as criminal charges have yet to be filed. The police department reminds residents to report any suspicious activity.
