COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Lt. Governor Jon Husted, JobsOhio President and CEO J.P. Nauseef, and nonprofit organization Aileron have unveiled a new initiative aimed at enhancing the state’s small businesses through a fully sponsored growth program. The JobsOhio Small Business Academy, Powered by Aileron, will assist small business owners, presidents, and CEOs of burgeoning B2B companies in Ohio by providing leadership training and business growth strategies.

“Small businesses play a crucial role in our communities by being innovative and quickly addressing local needs. Additionally, spending in small businesses tends to stay within the local economy,” said Lt. Governor Husted. “This program will foster more successful small businesses, leading to stronger, more prosperous communities throughout Ohio.”

The 12-month program combines in-person and virtual events, facilitated by Aileron, a nonprofit founded by the late Dayton-area leader and philanthropist Clay Mathile. Aileron aims to help business owners build thriving enterprises by enhancing leadership and implementing sustainable organizational systems.

“By partnering with Aileron to create the JobsOhio Small Business Academy, we aim to bolster the capabilities of Ohio’s small businesses, helping them improve management efficiency and scale operations for future success,” said JobsOhio President and CEO J.P. Nauseef. “This program not only supports small business expansion but also honors Clay Mathile’s enduring legacy of commitment to Ohio’s economic growth.”

Aileron Board of Trustees Chairman Mike Mathile emphasized the partnership’s alignment with Aileron’s mission to enhance the quality of life through strong small businesses. “This collaboration empowers our mission to elevate leaders, organizations, and communities across Ohio,” he said.

The inaugural cohort will consist of 25 businesses that have previously received JobsOhio incentives. Eligible businesses will be invited to apply for the program, with selections announced in August. The program is set to begin on September 24, 2024.

“We are excited to partner with JobsOhio to uplift organizations across the state,” said Aileron President Joni Fedders. “This program will help small business owners elevate their businesses and teams, ensuring long-term success. We’re honored to collaborate with JobsOhio and our first cohort of small businesses.”
