CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – A high-speed pursuit through the streets of Chillicothe ended in the arrest of a female suspect overnight. The incident began when officers attempted to stop a silver sedan for a traffic violation near the intersection of North Bridge Street and East Water Street.
According to officers, the vehicle, driven by Sophia Johnson, failed to pull over and accelerated to speeds exceeding 70 mph. The pursuit continued through multiple intersections, with the vehicle failing to stop at several stop signs. The chase came to a dramatic end when Johnson lost control of the vehicle while attempting to turn onto North Paint Street. The car struck a curb, a sign, a large potted plant, a traffic signal control box, and a trash can before coming to rest on the sidewalk.
Johnson exited the vehicle and fled on foot, but was quickly apprehended by officers after a brief chase. She was placed under arrest without further incident.
Photographs of the scene revealed significant damage, including tire marks, a dislodged wheel, and various debris. An empty vodka bottle was found among the wreckage, and officers noted an odor of alcohol on Johnson’s person.
Johnson was transported to the Ross County Jail, where she refused field sobriety tests and was later taken to Adena Regional Medical Center for evaluation. She faces multiple charges, including OVI, driving under a suspended license, failure to control, and failure to comply.
